Levaquin Lawyer

Pulaski Law Firm is no longer accepting claims for Levaquin-related injuries.

Levaquin (levofloxacin) is an antibiotic that belongs to the class called fluoroquinolones. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in the body, such as in the kidneys, skin, bladder, sinuses, or the prostate. It can be used to treat pneumonia and bronchitis as well as to treat people who have experienced anthrax exposure. It can be taken either orally with tablets or oral solutions or through injections. However, there are a number of painful and serious tendon issues that have been determined to be Levaquin side effects.

Levaquin Side Effects

Serious side effects that stem from Levaquin use often include:

  • Tendon Damage
  • Tendinitis (swelling of the tendon)
  • Ruptured Tendons

Damage to tendons including rupture may happen while a person is taking Levaquin or even up to several months after stopping the drug. It can be particularly hard on patients who are using corticosteroid therapy, particularly if they are over the age of 60. This is one of the reasons that there are a number of Levaquin lawsuits that have been filed. Symptoms of tendon damage include severe pain, a snap or pop, immediate bruising when an accident has occurred, and not being able to use the affected area. According to one of the Levaquin lawsuits, the Achilles tendon is the most susceptible with the rotator cuff, hand, and biceps tendons also being heavily affected.

In July 2008 the makers of Levaquin, Ortho-McNeil, were required by the FDA to include a black box warning about Levaquin side effects. However, this has not precluded additional Levaquin lawsuits from being filed.
